Imagine that you were just diagnosed as being HIV positive, and that you had no other person to turn to. That’s the reality for many people who come to the Albany Damien Center for the first time. They may have been rejected by their families and friends, or they may be too afraid to share their status. However, many people are fortunate enough to have an animal companion and anyone who's ever had a pet knows about the unconditional love and acceptance that they provide. And pets don’t just warm your feet, they have also been shown to provide tangible mental and physical health benefits to people living with HIV and AIDS.

Many individuals dealing with a loss of income, medical bills, and extended hospital stays, can no longer afford pet food, veterinary care, or to properly care for their pets. Tragically, this forces many to give away their beloved animal companions - just when they need them the most. PAWS NY Capital Region was created to ensure that pet owners living with HIV/AIDS are never forced to give up their beloved pets because of poor health or changes in income. PAWS’ staff and volunteers care for pets in the pet’s own home, when owners are too ill to do so, and PAWS provides assistance with veterinary bills, transportation, as well as pet food, supplies, and educational information.

With your help, we can increase the quality of life and health for pet owners and their pets in our community. To ensure the greatest marketing exposure, our deadline for sponsors is April 25, 2010, although there are opportunities to be a part of our event after that date.
